Burma Mushroom Spores

Overview: Burma magic mushrooms are a strain of psilocybe cubensis, a species of magic mushroom that contains the potent ingredients psilocybin and psilocin. It is one of the hundreds of hallucinogenic mushrooms that exist today. Psilocybe cubensis belongs to the fungus family called Hymenogastraceae. Burma psilocybin spores are known for having particularly intense psychedelic properties.

Discovery: Psilocybe cubensis, the main strain of magic mushroom spores that the Burma variety is derived from, was first noted historically in 1906 as “Stropharia cubensis” by famed mycologist Franklin Sumner Earle. Though the detailed origins of the Burma strain are unknown, it is believed that ethnomycologist and magic mushroom researcher John W. Allen acquired the Burma strain of psilocybe cubensis from a Thai individual in Burma, specifically from near the city of Rangoon. From there, one flush was grown and virtually all Burma spores are traceable back to that initial growth.

Growth Characteristics: The Burma strain can grow very quickly and aggressively. The strain colonizes quickly from spores. The result is medium to large mushrooms with caps of various shades of brown. Most psilocybe cubensis varieties, including the Burma strain, boast a 4–15 cm (2–6 in) long, 0.5–3.8 cm (0.2–1.5 in) trick stipe with a whitish-brown color. All psilocybe cubensis varieties, including the Burma strain, have a farinaceous taste and odor, as well as a dark brown spore print.

Microscopic Features: Psilocybe cubensis spores are 11.5–17 x 8–11 µm, subellipsoid, and basidia 4-spored. However, sometimes spores can be 2- or 3-. Pleurocystidia and cheilocystidia are present in this strain. The main psychoactive compounds in the Burma psilocybe cubensis strain are Psilocybin (4-phosphoryloxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine), Psilocin (4-hydroxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine), Baeocystin (4-phosphoryloxy-N-methyltryptamine), and Norbaeocystin (4-phosphoryloxytryptamine).
